FAQs
What is CNG or NGV ?
CNG (compressed natural
gas) or NGV (natural gas for vehicle) is natural
gas which is compressed. Natural Gas is compound
by a mixture of gases, which the main one is methane
(85 to 98 %).
LPG is
the same than CNG?
NO !!!! LPG is a mixture of gases, butane and propane
which are storage in liquated state. It is gasified
for it use. The storage pressures are between 8
to 15 bars (116 psi to 217,5 psi). CNG is compressed
natural gas (more or less 95% of methane). It is
storage in gasified state. The storage pressure
is 200 bares (2900 psi).
Is it
possible to convert any vehicle?
Practically 100% of petrol vehicles could be converted.
What
is the efficiency of one standard cubic meter of
CNG?
The theoretical caloric efficiency is 10 % major
than petrol. In conclusion, 1Sm3 = 1,10 petrol liter.
Why is
CNG Environmental Friendly ?
Because vehicles running on CNG produce less contaminating
exhaust gases than those vehicles running on petrol
or gas-oil.
Is it
possible to convert electronic fuel injection vehicles?
Yes. They could be converted if the conversion is
done by specialized technicians.
Which
is the equivalence between the hydraulic capacity
of a cylinder and the natural gas quantity?
For example : 60 liters cylinder = 15 Sm3 (approximately)
when the work pressure is 200 bar (2900 psi)
Which
is the best cylinder for my car?
The cylinder to be chosen depends on the autonomy
desired and the free space in your vehicle.
For example : for a tourism vehicle, 1.6 liter engine,
it could be located a 60 liter cylinder or two of
30 liter each one. The autonomy could be 160 kms
(100 miles) approximately.
Is CNG
more dangerous than petrol?
No, is safer. One of the reasons is that natural
gas is lighter than air, it will be impossible to
have dangerous concentration of natural gas in case
of leakage.
Is it
possible to use any kind of cylinder to store CNG?
NO !!!!! ONLY CYLINDERS FOR HIGH PRESSURE CNG STORAGE
MUST BE USED. IT MUST BE HOMOLOGATED BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES
!!!!!!
What
are Emulators?
They are electronic devices which are used in fuel
injection conversions.
Generally exist two types :
Injectors emulators
:
It is used to cut – off petrol supply when
the car is running on CNG. It is used to prevent
petrol from mixing to natural gas.
Lambda Sensor / Oxygen
Emulator :
It is used to emulate the lambda sensor when the
car is running on CNG. It prevent the Electronic
Control Unit from registering any failure in its
memory.
What
is a timing advance processor?
It is an electronic device which vary the original
timing of the vehicle when it runs on CNG.
Because the flame propagation velocity of the natural
gas is minor than the petrol one, a Timing Advance
Processor must be used. For that reason the timing
is setting in advance, referred to the petrol one,
when the engine is running on natural gas.
What
is the vehicle autonomy when it is running on CNG?
The vehicle autonomy depends on the cylinder size
and the fuel consumption. So, to make a quick calculation
you can work as follow:
Engine : 1.6 liters MPFI
Fuel Consumption : 10 petrol liters / 100 kms (4,25
gallon / 100 miles)
Autonomy running on CNG : 140 – 160 kms (
87 – 100 miles)
What
is the power lost when CNG is used?
It is 10% approximately.
Is major
the maintenance work?
No, the original maintenance program must be follow.
Nevertheless, any advantages exist referred to petrol
. For example, the motor oil live will be increase.
