On
Wednesday May 9th, the Dominican Republic´s
first Natural Gas Compression and Distribution
Plant was inaugurated by the country´s President,
Leonel Fernández in the presence of government
and business leaders.
This Main-Plant is owned by Linea Clave Internacional
S.A., who is Galileo´s representative on
the island. The plant has a CNG compression-capacity
of 13,000 M3/hour and distributes 30,000 M3/day.
In a few months compression-capacity will be
raised to 18,000 M3/hour and distribution to
90,000 M3/day.
Ricardo Canalda, president of Linea Clave, emphasized,
in the inauguration speech, that even though
initial Compressed Natural Gas supply is destined
for industrial use, the company is prepared to
attend the demand for residential and vehicular
uses.
This again confirms the advantages of the Virtual
CNG Pipeline in providing versatile technological
solutions adaptable to the most diverse requirements.
Upon conclusion of the inaugural ceremonies,
President Leonel Fernández, the Secretary of Industry
and Commerce, Javier Garcia, other members of
the government and the Directors of Linea Clave
met with Galileo´s CEO, Osvaldo del Campo,
to coordinate a speedy extension of the uses
of CNG as a fuel, especially for vehicles.
This way CNG is incorporated into the Dominican
Republic´s basket of different fuels, providing
an attractive alternative in a diversity of applications.

The Dominican
Government subsidizes the price of liquid petroleum
gas (LPG) to the tune of $200 million dollars a
year. The availability and distribution of the—cheaper--natural
gas will make Dominican industry more competitive
and allow the government to realize substantial
savings in LPG subsidies.
The speakers highlighted the benefits of using
Natural Gas as a fuel due to its cleanliness,
low maintenance cost and its lower price. Their
studies have shown that (CNG) is 7% cheaper than
fuel oil, 24% less than (LPG), and 48% less than
Gasoline. But without their subsidies, (CNG)
would be 48% cheaper than (LPG) and 66% less
than gasoline.
We extend a warm welcome to the Dominican Republic.
We are grateful for the trust placed in Galileo.
We renew our dedication to a continued search
for ever better technological solutions to satisfy
the evolving needs of our customers.
